I went to dental school at the
University of Florida in Gainesville which is kind of the north-central
portion of Florida. My mentor there had mentioned that this was a really
good program and I should go visit. My third year dental school I
came here for four weeks and spent some time here with the residents and all of
our attendings and Dr. Ghali and I just fell in love with the program. A few years ago I was starting to make
decisions on where I’d like to go. My husband is a pilot. He flies a B-52 for
the Air Force here in town. It’s difficult to coordinate where we
can both be where I can practice considering my specialty and he can also
fly. There’s only two places. Here and Minot, North Dakota. I don’t want to go
there because it’s a frozen tundra and I don’t think I can get a job. Dr. Ghali
was kind enough to offer me a position here. No one in my family is a doctor or
dentist , lawyer a lot of teachers. I understand how patients feel and the
apprehension they have when they come to see the doctor. I understand
where they’re coming from. I understand the barriers they face with
communicating with their physicians. I was once one of those people. My biggest area of interest is
definitely pediatrics. I spent the last year working with Dr. Ghali treating all
of our children that have cleft lip and palate, abnormalities of the skull and other
kind of syndromes. I’ve always loved children. I think it’s really just a
big part of the community that needs to be served and I can make it a big
portion of my practice.
