Ryerson’s Fresh Start Program

♫ (Intro Music) STUDENT A: I felt really shocked. STUDENT A: It was a bit of a surprise for me. STUDENT A: I didn’t expect myself to be in that position. STUDENT B: I felt terrified. STUDENT B: I didn’t know what exactly to feel. STUDENT B: Just nothing good. STUDENT A: It never even crossed my mind, you know, what happens when your grades are so low, that you’re required to withdraw. STUDENT A: I was introduced to all of these people that were in the same position as me. STUDENT C: It wasn’t just me that was struggling in school. STUDENT D: We all fall down and we have to learn to pick ourselves up, right? STUDENT A: The fact that Fresh Start is out there, that there is an option to move forward. It doesn’t just end here. STUDENT B: During the process of Fresh Start, all the anxiety, all the fear was removed. STUDENT C: For me, personally, what helped me the most from Fresh Start was just that week by week approach they took. STUDENT C: Because it taught me to take that week by week approach in all my courses. STUDENT B: I actually built a lot better note-taking, and was also better just overall in reading and memorization. STUDENT B: Utilizing my time. STUDENT A: One thing that really surprised me while in the program was people really listen. STUDENT C: What surprised me most was I was expecting it to just be very similar to the probation period. STUDENT C: What Fresh Start did for me, actually, was they still continuously helped you. STUDENT C: In how you’re adjusting yourself better to university life. STUDENT D: I just finished my fourth year at Ryerson and I’m going into my fifth and final year. STUDENT D: Yeah, I’m back on track. STUDENT B: Overall, academics wise, my GPA tripled and I’m happy and ultimately I can’t ask for anything more than that. STUDENT A: And I graduated from BTM. Already have a steady job. I’m working as a property manager. STUDENT A: Things are looking pretty good. STUDENT C: My words of advice… STUDENT C: Just take it one step at a time. STUDENT A: I’d have to just say relaxe. STUDENT A: You know, there are so many outside factors that only you might know and nobody else knows. STUDENT C: Just work at it. STUDENT D: If you wanna take that time off, you know, you gotta take that time off, but if you really want to focus and you want to come back to Ryerson. STUDENT D: You want to get your education back on track, you definitely need to do Fresh Start. STUDENT D: It’s your second chance, and you know what, you just gotta take it. STUDENT C: Fresh Start is exactly what it says it is. ♫ (Outro Music)
