The controllable compliance and forced distribution properties make for reliable and robust environmental interactions. Shape deformations can be used to accurately control the robot, and enable locomotion.
Made something very similar on Garry's mod.

very interesting concept, great technology, completely useless. a blast of wind can take it anywhere, really slow, no possibility of mounting any research apparatus or cameras on it, unless there is a camera in every pole, very fragile strings, if one is broken, the whole thing is dead. but very cool concept, congratulations!
