Volleyball – Caitlin Wernentin Interview (10-17-18)

Caitlin, obviously it’s a really tough stretch of the schedule when you can play the top three teams in the league back-to-back-to-back. What have you guys learned about yourselves? What have you learned that you need to be working on in order to progress throughout the rest of the season? Well, we’ve been working really hard in practices. And something that we really need to work on when it comes game time, I feel is our communication because we have the skill, it’s just putting it all together and – putting it all together on the court and just kind of – I don’t know, using our friendships off the court, use it on the court, and talk about what we need to do before a play happens. Friday night, Florida obviously the national runners up. You’ve seen them already this year, they’re going to be tough. They don’t rebuild, they reload down there in Gainesville. What did you learn about the Gators from your first matchup with them? Well, Florida is a definite aggressive team. So I think it’s really important for us to match their aggressiveness and just come out swinging, come out hard, play like there’s nothing to lose and just – I mean, if we incorporate our communication in there with that too, then I think that we just give it everything we’ve got it’ll be a good – a good matchup. Then Mississippi State on Sunday and that’s always fun every time you mention it someone gets a smile on their face like you just did. You got the taste of it for the first time last year. What can you expect from going up against the Bulldogs again this season? Well, regardless of the record, the in-state rivalry is always a big thing for Ole Miss. And I think it would be great if we got a lot of people out in the crowds to kind of hype up the energy and come out with a win on top against State. How big is it that you do have these next two matchups at home? Obviously you guys enjoy playing at the Gillom Center. Being at home, I feel like the crowd brings a lot of energy and it really does help players feed off that energy and incorporate it into our play. So having home games is great and having the support and love from our fans really helps.
