Going back to last season the Ole Miss volleyball team has won the last three tournaments they’ve hosted here at the Gillom Center. The 2017 Ole Miss Classic, the 2017 National Invitational Volleyball Championship, and this past weekend’s 2018 Rebel Invitational. Ole Miss swept the weekend, including five set wins over Ohio State on Friday and Southern Miss on Sunday. Junior setter Jordan Fate and freshman middle Aubrey Sultemeier were named to the All-Tournament team. And junior outside hitter Emily Stroup was named tournament MVP. I think definitely we just figured out that when we’re firing on all cylinders as a team, working together and all of our little pieces are coming together, I think we do really well. When we get good passes our hitters are able to put the ball away and I just think whenever we’re working together as a team and competing, being aggressive, talking it really helps us be able to be successful. We had a little bit of trouble in like some spots, but we continued to work through it and even in five sets we came through every single game. We’re trying to stay undefeated at home and I think we worked really hard and um, yeah I think we have a lot of work to do still but, we did great. Up next for the Rebels a trip to Atlanta where they’ll face off with Chicago State, Sam Houston State and Georgia State at the Panther’s GSU Invitational. We just learned that we need to make sure we’re staying confident, you know, when we make a few errors, we need to just like move on to the next ball, keep playing hard, keep swinging at balls and putting them away. Like that we just need to continue to work hard through different types of adversity that we face. I think just staying consistent but also patient and just believing in each other will help us do well this next tournament. The Rebs might be gone for the weekend, but no fear, they’ll be right back here at Oxford for a Tuesday night tilt against Memphis on September 11th. That match will begin at 7:00 p.m. We hope to see you here at the Gillom Center.
